Cheap Lunch - Bread & Cakes
One of the great things about Vietnam (and Asia in general) is the amazing food!
You can get anything and everything, literally! Many travelers are amazed at the cost of living, it’s extremely cheap if you eat local food. An example of this is Banh Mi or Vietnamese Bread. Left over from when the French were in town, bread is popular with the Vietnamese.
On many a corner you can see ladies squatting on the side of the road selling bread from their large bamboo baskets, other shops and stalls sell the bread with salad, processed meat and pate (see photo).
Such a shop is located at 36 Dinh Liet Street in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. They sell the bread along with pastries and cakes. Banh Mi (Bread) with salad and meat go for 8,000VND and the Apple Pies, or Banh Tao, go for 5,000VND.
It makes for simple and light lunch, costing less than $1USD! And as a bonus, you can enjoy eating them on the banks of Hoan Kiem Lake which is only a 3 minute away!
