Quy Nhon – What to do?

Situated on the right on coast, the ever growing fishing town of Quy Nhon is slowly but surely becoming a popular stop off for many travelers to Vietnam.

For the more adventurous travelers, Quy Nhon is a great place to walk, explore, relax on the beach and eat fabulous seafood. Most locals will not speak English, many will be surprised to see you, but all will have a large smile on their face!

When there, here are just a few things to check out:

  • Main Beach – Located in the middle of town, the northern end of the beach is the anchoring area for the local fishing fleet, so head south and find an empty space n the sand! The beach is packed early morning and late afternoon with locals swimming, chatting or playing football.

If you’re a budding photographer, head to the northern end of the beach at sunrise for great shots of the fishing fleet. For bike riders, take on the hills and head south to explore the small beaches and inlets that scatter the coastline!

  • Thap Doi Charm Towers – From the 2nd – 15th Century, the Charm People ruled the area between what we now know as Danang, south to Phan Rang. Still scattered through out the area are the large sandstone towers they built. The Charm Towers are amazingly built and the carving extraordinary. Entrance to the Thap Doi Towers is 5,000VND.
  • Nguyen Nga Centre (2D Tang Bat Ho Street) – This centre looks after children that have various disabilities’ or are hearing impaired. Owner, Ms Nga, set up the centre more than 10 years ago and has helped hundreds (if not thousands) of kids and their families. It is a center that I have been personally involved with and can not speak highly enough of Ms Nga, her staff and the amazing kids that hang out there. There is also a small shop with handmade (by the kids) items for sale which go back in to the centre.

    Hi Adam,

I have been reading your blogs – really great so thank you very much. My boyfriend and I are fortunate enough to be able to take 3 weeks off each Dec time and go off travelling for 3 weeks. We are not sure where to head this year. We are very adventurous and love to be able bike, hike, camp etc and love getting off the beaten track. In the past we have been to Sri Lanka, Ecuador, Nepal twice, Patagonia and Chile and last year Ethiopia. Please don’t think I am name dropping!!! just trying to paint a picture of the style of travelling we like! We hate the tourist, backpacker, ‘trip’ scene and crave to explore on our own. So…….we are thinking about Vietnam but wondered if we are 10 years too late and now it has become another Thailand??? Could we do a great 3 week trip independently with some hiking, biking and adventure thrown in?? What would you recommend – we both love the outdoors and are not great city people. And above all we love adventures! We are torn between Vietnam and Guatemala!!! Sounds like you know it like a ‘local’ so any advice would be much appreciated! Many thanks,

    Zoe
