The heaviest rains in 35 years, have literally drowned Vietnam’s Capitial city.
Friday saw some 450mm fall in 9 hours during the early morning. Roads where flooded, traffic stopped and houses turned in to swimming pools.
Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem Lake flooded and people we’re traveling the city roads by boat. One person interviewed on the VTV News, said that it took 6 hours to travel the 4km from their place of work to their home!
Cost of food has also skyrocketed as market places have been replaced by a meter or more of water. Vendors have been setting up shop in any dry place they can find. Water spinach which normally costs 2-3,000vnd was going for 10,000vnd!
More is rain is expected over the coming days.
The rest of the country didn’t miss out. Much of the area from Hue up to the north of Vietnam, was also hit heavily by the rain. Reports say some 17 people are missing or killed, include 4 in Hanoi.
