9th Nov – Today saw us leave Vietnam largest city, Ho Chi Minh, and head by bus to Cu Chi Tunnels. Started in the 1940’s, the people around Cu Chi continued digging until the tunnels where around 240km in length. They proved extremely effective against emeny bombing and attacks.

It was an amazing achievement considering it was dug by hand and during bloody conflicts. The Cu Chi Tunnels today is a great place to visit and learn how, why and when they were built.

Below are some images from the tunnels.

After visiting Cu Chi, we donned the bike gear and set of on the 80km ride to the town on Tay Ninh.

Tay Ninh is located around 30km from the Vietnam/Cambodian border deep in the Mekong Delta Region. The ride was a great journey, that took us along small back roads through green lush rice paddies, small rural villages, rubber tree plantations and finally along the busy Highway 1.

As we began the ride, temperatures rose well into the 30’s (C) making it tough going. It wasn’t long though, that a large tropical storm cooled us down in the late afternoon. With the heat and heavy rain, cycling was tough, slow but always enjoyable!

Towards the end of the ride we hit highway 1 and we were meet by mad truck drivers, speeding motor bikes, Ox drawn carts and locals wondering home after work. The last few K’s were completed in the early evening and with a badly timed black out, darkness quickly covered the landscaped making going even slower. Around 7pm we headed in through the gates of the Hoa Binh Hotel, tired but thrilled to rest the backside and legs!

Images of the ride coming soon!
